RIHEA COMMITTEES

Department/Work Area Delegate: Delegate Assembly representatives make policy for the Association. The Delegate Assembly (DA) meets monthly. Each department or work area is entitled to one delegate for every seven (7) members.

 

Department/Work Area Alternate:  Delegate Assembly Alternates take the place of absent Delegate Assembly members at monthly meetings. Each department or work area is entitled to one alternate for every delegate.

 

TASC: The Teacher Administrator Support Staff Committee (TASC) meets monthly with the building principal and other administrators to review, discuss, revise, and develop policies related to building issues and problems. The elected building representatives each TASC Committee; the elected assistant building representatives serve as chair in the absence of the building rep. Representation on TASC is covered by the contract and includes teachers and support staff members.

 

Grievance: The Grievance Committee deals with grievances arising at each building related to contract violations by the BOE and/or the District and building administration. This committee works closely with the RIHEA President and Vice President in addressing potential contract violations.

 

Negotiations: The Negotiations Team negotiates with the BOE Negotiations Team for successor agreements (future contracts). The RIHEA President appoints members of the team.

 

Legislation: This committee keeps abreast of and informs the membership of newly proposed or enacted legislation affecting RIHEA members and retirees.

 

Sunshine/Welfare: This committee keeps track of issues affecting members and sends arrangements, baskets, and cards to members, and arranges for donations to charitable organizations in a member’s name, when appropriate and in accordance with RIHEA Policy.

 

Scholarship: This committee plans fundraising activities related to scholarships awarded by the RIHEA to graduating seniors, and participates in the selection of the RIH Honor Graduate and the recipients of the RIHEA Scholarships in June.

 

APTS/PTSO: Representatives to these two organizations act as the RIHEA liaison between the Association and the parent organizations in the district, attend regular meetings of the APTS or PTSO, and convey the RIHEA viewpoint to parents on issues affecting the District.

 

Bulletin Board: The members of this committee maintain the RIHEA bulleting boards in each Staff Dining Room and keep members abreast of information of interest by posting that information on a regular basis.

 

Membership: The Membership Committee organizes and maintains the enrollment and membership list of new and current RIHEA members.

 

Action: Members of the Action Committee discuss, develop, and plan appropriate group activities when necessary.

 

Publicity: This committee keeps the public informed of Association and professional activities.

 

Nominations: This committee solicits potential candidates for positions on the RIHEA Executive Committee and for delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly, and prepares the slate for elections.

 

Elections: This committee organizes and supervises the annual elections of the RIHEA officers, delegates to the NEA RA, and members of the Local Professional Development Committee.
